Welcome to SDI
Our shared document desk. Here's how it works — in plain language.
What is SDI for?
SDI stores every document our cooperative produces — minutes, statutes, opinions, plans — in one searchable place. It also helps you write new ones, and it can answer questions about what's already in the archive.
You can think of it as three things in one:
- A filing cabinet — every doc is saved, tidied up, translated to English if needed.
- A writing helper — describe what you need, it drafts a document using our house style.
- A research buddy — ask questions, it reads through the archive to find answers.
Sending in a document — two ways
- Drag & drop — open the Upload tab, drop a file.
- Email it — send the file as attachment to
docs@docs.syntrociety.com.
What the app does for you
- Checks the file is safe.
- Turns it into plain text.
- Figures out what it's about (topic, language, author).
- Translates it to English if it was in another language.
- Saves the clean version where everyone can find it.
- Sends you an email: "Received, here's where it lives."
The tabs at the top
Each tab does one thing:
- Pipeline — what the app is working on right now.
- Upload — drop a document in.
- Index — every document we have. Search, filter, open.
- Insights — timeline of what happened when, who's mentioned, what laws we cite.
- Analyse — paste text to see what the app thinks, without saving anything.
- Generate — describe what you need, get a draft back.
- Agent — chat with the archive. Ask anything.
- Proposals — consent-based decisions on drafts.
Your first five minutes
- Go to Index. Browse the documents that are already there.
- Open one (click the row) and look at the summary, type, and linked event.
- Go to Agent, make a new session, ask "what are our main policies about land use?"
- Go to Upload, send in one of your own documents.
- Check Pipeline a minute later — it should be sorted and saved.
Good to know
- Everything is private to your cooperative by default. Other organisations on SDI cannot see your documents.
- You can switch organisations from the avatar menu in the top-right, if you belong to more than one.
- If a draft feels off, click Discard — nothing is saved until you say Save as draft.
- The app uses a paid AI service, so there's a monthly budget. If you hit the limit, new drafts pause. An admin can unlock it.
- If something breaks, ask an admin — they can see the full picture in the admin tab.
Want more detail?
The Documents, Generate & Agent, Insights, Proposals & Events and Admin pages on the left go deeper — one per area. You don't need to read any of them to use SDI, but they're there when you need them.
